Our Officers
Matt Rice, President
Matthew Rice is the current president of the Brandywine Bicycle Club, elected to the office in 2013. Matt has been a cycling enthusiast for the past 18 years, beginning with a hybrid after college and transitioning to a road bike a few years later. He doesn't ride as much as he would like, but tries to get out at least one day a week during the warmer months. Matt's other hobbies include raising his young daughter and referring to himself in the third person.
Rob Young, Vice President
Rob joined the BBC in 1999. He was new to cycling when he joined but quickly became an avid rider, completing his first century (the BBC Dog Daze) that same year. Since joining he has biked in many US states and a few foreign countries as well. Besides club road rides, he also enjoys overnight touring. He has served the BBC as a ride leader, club secretary and vice president.
Becky Hoyle, Treasurer and Membership Director
Becky joined the club in 2004. She is an active participant in triathlons and has participated in 4 half-ironman distance triathlon over the last few years. Becky recently went into business for herself…entrepreneurship is the grand new adventure. She has been cycling since 2003 and enjoys the social aspect of the sport more than anything.
Karen Osley, Secretary
Karen joined the Brandywine Bicycle Club in 1995. She is currently a co-leader with Boyd Peart for the Wednesday night rides from Malvern. She enjoys the social aspect of getting together for dinner after the ride and invites others to do so as well! Karen does some riding other than Wednesday nights, but at this point it is minimal due to being a busy single parent to her two children, Skyler and Liam. Please come out to the Wednesday night rides! They are a great first ride with the club because they are show and go rides and you can go as fast or as slow as you like. See you on Wednesday night!
Lesa Franz, Ride Captain
Lesa joined BBC in 2000/2001. She is a recumbent rider who loves bicycle touring and is an avid endurance bicyclist. Some milestones include TOSRV (Tour of Scioto Valley) MS150 PADutch and City to Shore as well as many of the local metric and century rides. Lesa is one of the co-founders of Coatesville Community Bike Works which teaches bicycle repair to youth and the community.
Linda Young, Web Content Manager
Linda started bicycling in 2002 to get into shape for downhill skiing. The big goal that year was to complete the NJ City to Shore MS 150 in September with co-workers. While training for the "big event" she met Lesa from the BBC on the DE Doublecross. Lesa was so friendly that Linda joined the club and has continued to bike with the BBC ever since. And like the first year, Linda has found that setting goals improved the bicycling experience.
Hank Saiia, Webmaster
Hank is one of the newest members of Brandywine Bicycle Club. After many years out of the saddle, Hank started riding again in 2015 and quickly discovered a love for long distance events. He joined BBC at our annual Dog Daze event in 2015. With a strong background in Technology, Hank is currently leading the charge to redesign the website and help BBC use technology to grow our membership.
